The Great Big Book of Families

The Great Big Book of Families is a brilliantly inclusive book that shows real families in an honest light. Each double page spread explores diverse family set ups and looks at different family experiences of subjects like jobs, school, holidays, pets, food and clothes. It has been bought by the Brazilian govenrment to be distributed in all thier primary schools. 91,000 copies!

LGBTHM2014 Launched!

Another huge success, the day was hosted by the magnificent University of Birmingham, with children’s workshops in the morning and a extremely entertaining and moving two-hour show in the evening, hilariously introduced by comedien Brbara Nice.

International Trans Remembrance Day

Today (20th November) is the annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance. In the last year 238 trans people have been murdered worldwide. SOUK’s Andrew Dobbin has written ‘Trans – The forgotten strand?’ , looking at Trans issues from an employment and educational viewpoint.

Section 28 Archive

2013 is the 25th anniversary of the arrival of the reviled censorship law Section 28, and the 10th anniversary of its repeal. As part of our commemorations we have created a bank of resources covering the 15 year period that Section 28 was in place.

(7th November) on the Vanessa Feltz radio programme SOUK co-chair Sue Sanders and Sean Dellenty, of Inclusion For All led a phone-in on the use of the word ‘gay’ in schools. This programme went further asking whether teachers should be ‘out’ at schools. Promotions Officer Andrew Dobbin also made a contribution.
