TRANS COMMUNITY CONFERENCE 2009: Creative Responses to Education and Equality - Gendered Intelligence, 12th September, Central School of Speech and Drama, London

The Trans Community Conference 2009 is a one-day gathering featuring a series of workshops for members of the trans community from across the UK, as well as professionals who work with the trans community. This year’s conference hopes to take a more creative approach to the themes of education, equalities and diversities, policy and practice, political activism and work carried out in the voluntary and community sector.

Engaging Hard to Reach Communities - MediaTrust, 26th March, Chelsea FC, London

There are many different communities who are often categorised as 'Hard to Reach', from refugee groups to the elderly. Media Trust is presenting a one day conference for charities, public sector and corporate organisations that are seeking insight and practical information on how to engage such communities. We will share a range of communications strategies, tools and best practice, and alos aim to dispel some of the traditional thinking on this subject via our panel debate.

Filling in the Blanks - LGBT Hate Crime in London, 31st March, Emirates Stadium, London

A conference to launch a major research report examining homophobic and transphobic hate crime in London and examining the need for a more coordinated response.
Filling in the Blanks was developed in partnership with the MPS, Stonewall Housing and London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard. The research was funded by the MPS, the MPA and the City Parochial Foundation.

Faith, Homophobia, Transphobia & Human Rights Conference, 16th May, Institute of Education, London

Confirmed speakers at the Conference include Giles Fraser, Broadcaster,Trevor Philips Chair EHRC, Maria Eagle MP , Minister for Equality, Amanullah de Sondy, Director of Islamic Studies, the University of Glasgow, and Marilyn McCord Adams, Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford.

There will be plenaries and worshops addressing many trade union related themes including fighting the challenges to equal access to goods and services from reactionary faith organisations, campaigning against religious exemptions to employment, challenging homophobia and transphobia in faith schools, building multifaith community cohesion and making alliances between progressive religious and secular organisations.

Registration forms and further details of the Conference will be circulated later this month.
