LGBT Youth Scotland: Homophobic Bullying Survey

LGBT Youth Scotland, a national youth organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people, is carrying out research for the Scottish Executive into the extent and nature of homophobic bullying in schools. Ultimately, the project will result in national guidance to ensure that EAs and schools can feel confident in dealing with homophobia and homophobic incidents when they arise.

The project has involved surveying and interviewing Education Authority and school staff and we now want to hear the views, opinions and experiences of young people who are currently or have recently been at school. We have designed a survey for young people which asks questions surrounding:

Do you think that homophobic bullying is a problem in your school or is it no big deal?
Has it ever happened to you or any of your friends? What sort of things happened?
If you reported the bullying were you happy with the way in which staff dealt with it?
What could be done to make schools safer for all young people?

If you are currently attending school in Scotland or have recently left school you can help us find out more by filling in a short survey and letting other people know about it too. If you work with young people then please let them know about this survey. It is totally confidential and we promise that you won't be identified by your answers.

You can find the survey on the LGBT Youth Scotland website at

If you've got any questions or comments about the survey or about homophobic bullying in general, please feel free to get in touch:
